Mart was killed recently in a auto accident in Dallas at 70 years old. His drag racing career would make him famous as a driver in the early years of Funny Cars. A CPA by trade, Mart's drag racing roots could be traced back to a '55 Chevy, but would team up with pal Mike Burkhart to wheel some of his early funny cars. In 1971, Mart would get his own car and with the backing of Racing Fuels Incorporated run all across the country in the 'Drag On' funny car. Never getting a national event win, he nonetheless made a name for himself for having a competitive car that was always first class. Later his CPA skills would land him as the 'money manager' for the Garlits led Professional Racers Organization that in the mid 70's went against the established NHRA and AHRA to bring bigger purses to drag racing but never found success. Here are some of Mart's cars that he wheeled or owned during his drag racing career. RIP
