This board is fairly quiet now so I'll take the opportunity to espouse an idea i've had for a long time. Almost all heads-up classes allow for the most expensive combinations possible thus raising costs. I propose as the SHRA (which I think is a great idea) moves along we could look at developing the following heads-up class to greatly increase car counts:
For FEDS, ALTEREDS and ROADSTERS center -steer cars.
360 cubic inch limit on small blocks 410 cubic inch limit on big blocks.
Iron heads on small blocks, aluminum heads on big blocks.
10.5 inch slicks on all FEDs, 12 inch on ALTERDSs and Roadsters.
All naturally aspirated.
All cars must run e85 ethanol.
Class designation will be "C/Fuel
Cars of this nature should run in the low 9s or high 10s and be far more within the means of a average racer than some of the more exotic classes.
Your thoughts or suggestions?

I can see someone with lots more money than sense showing up with a 12 degree 410 big block. Why alum. heads and more cubes for a big block? Just an opinion but any heads-up class will eventually cost you a lot of money to be competitive, just the nature of the beast.

The aluminum heads would give the big blocks a weight break. Small blocks tend to dominate them in FEDS. I" not certain that aluminum heads would be needed on Alterds and Roadsters because of the bigger tires.
Stock valve angles would be required.
Sure somebody is going to spend more money but this C/Fuel structure leaves out the cost of: Fire bottles, S15 fire suits, data recorders , multiple parachutes , high voltage magnetos, etc.

Hi. Everybody. I have had an idea for a while now. I think it would be really cool to have a heads up class with a small c.u. inch mid 60s build. 327 block small journal. stock steel crank 5.7 or 6" steel rod, off the shelf piston 461 casting heads the only port work done is what you do yourself in your own garage not at a machine shop. Spec cam, mechanical injection no titanium parts. What do you think of that Idea? ? Marry Christmas to every one and a Happy New year. Rick Kester

Your idea brings up another cost saving.
Standard production cylinder blocks could be used in place of the aftermarket blocks that are needed to run in the 7s
